How do you tell the age of a bottle of cognac? ›

A label with the designation V.S. or three stars means that the average aging period of the Cognac is 5 to 9 years. The minimum age is three years for this designation. V.S.O.P. (Very Superior Old Pale) or Reserve means that the average age of the Cognac used in the blend is 7 to 10 years.

An original Hennessy bottle is sealed by laser and hologram technology. This is to ensure that the drink is not contaminated after production. Therefore, any Henessy drink with a wobble and a loose cork is fake. Every authentic Hennessy bottle has a NAFDAC number.

Odds are that you'll go bad before the Cognac does. The few drops I got from a tiny bottle of 1875 were very good. Had a 40 year old 2 weeks ago that was a wowzer ! I follow the same rule for all my spirits - more than 1/3-1/4 of bottle, do nothing (other than keep out of direct light).

Unopened liquor of all kinds will generally keep indefinitely if stored properly. Store out of direct sunlight, tightly sealed, in a stable room-temperature environment.
