"Replacing our old maps is our number one project at this point," said Massac County Commission Chairman Jim Modglin.
The Geographical Information System (GIS) uses aircraft and modern photographic technology to capture every parcel of land in the county on film, and helps to more accurately define the city, county, taxing districts and GIS mapping is expected to cost the county about $160,001) and could take up to four years to complete, but Modglin said commissioners supported the wock and were committed to seeing jt through. "We cannot afford this if it came out of the general fund," he said. The daughter of former gubernatorial candidate Glenn Poshard faces criminal charges for allegedly ramming her car into a bar where she'd been told she would no longer be served alcohol. Kristen Poshard, 28, was charged with reckless driving, resisting a police officer, drunken driving, driving on a suspended license and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Glenn Poshard apologized for his daughter's actions. "Kristen made a series of irresponsible choices, none of which my family and I condone," he said. "She has battled her own private demons for many years," Poshard said. "We love her and as a family have done all we can to help her." The incident occurred early Tuesday outside a tavern in De Soto, near Carbondale. After being denied alcohol and asked to leave, Kristen Poshard allegedly drove her car through iron posts outside the tavern and into the building's front door.
Nobody was injured. Jackson County sheriff's officials said Poshard later was verbally abusive to a deputy and resisted processing at the jail. She posted $300 bail and was released. Glenn Poshard, a Democrat, was narrowly defeated in the 1998 governor's race by Republican George Ryan. He is now an administrator at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.
